SUMMER IN SALERNO: a day in Paestum

Toga party anyone? Last Tuesday I got to visit Paestum, a famous ancient Greek city located in the Campania region of Italy. After a quick 30 minute train ride we were able to step foot into the real ruins of this once booming civilization dating back to about 500 BC (I mean c’mon that’s pretty dang cool). The highlight of this place though, are the 3 massive temples that can be found on the grounds. Sadly, I only took pictures of 2 out of the 3, but have a look down below to get a glimpse into what it would be like to be an ancient Greek for a day!

No excursion could be complete without some gelato to finish off the day and at Caffèmuseo they know how to do authentic buffalo milk gelato right! I decided to go with the killer combo of stracciatella and to be quite honest I have no idea what exactly the other flavor was called. Frankly, it looked delicious and I can tell you that it tasted accordingly! I will definitely be back for more!!! Nothing better than a little sugar rush before a quick train ride back to Salerno!

Stracciatella and mystery flavor??? buffalo milk gelato from Caffèmuseo in Paestum!

After a long day of classes and studying hard, Paestum reminded the 8 of us in the Salerno study abroad program why we made the decision to come in the first place! There truly is no better way to explore these historic and breathtaking places and I am so glad that I get to share these experiences with those that share the same passion as me! No way we could leave Paestum without getting a group shot to forever remember this day!

Ole Miss Study Abroad in Salerno 2021 group!

Keep your eyes peeled for upcoming posts from a limoncello factory excursion, authentic Neapolitan pizza from Naples, and so much more to come! I hope y’all are enjoying seeing my travels as much as I’m finding myself enjoying writing about them!

Ciao a tutti!
