I have been in South Korea for exactly three weeks now, and I have not experienced any semblance of boredom whatsoever. Experiencing Seoul as an exchange student at Korea University is great, because there is always something to do, outside of studying of course. What stands out the most about Korea for me is definitely the love for stimulating music, Korean history, and flavorful food.

Without fail, regardless of where I have visited (Insadong, Gangnam, Yeouido, Hongdae, or even my own university campus) if there is not a festival, there will be street performers. There is even an entire area in Gangnam where tourists can participate in interactive activities concerning some of South Korea’s top music agencies.

One of my favorite things about South Korea is how well the history is preserved. Korean history is more than just taught in a class or showcased in a museum. It can actually be experienced. One afternoon, I got the opportunity to visit a Tourist Center in downtown Seoul, and I never imagined that I could get the opportunity to try on Hanbok, traditional Korean wear of the Jeoson era, or to eat omegiddoek, a traditional sweet rice cake dessert. On top  of that, if tourists shared their experiences on social media using the hashtag #kstylehub, they could be rewarded with special gifts that could only be found in Korea.

For the record, all of what I have written about so far in this article happened within one day. Now, let’s talk about the food! I am positive that anyone who has visited Korea at least once in their life will tell you that the food is absolutely one of the most memorable things about their experience. Not only is the daily Korean cuisine generally speaking pretty healthy, it is also downright delicious. As a college student,money is always a concern, especially while abroad; however, because the street food is so inexpensive, I have very little to worry about. I highly recommend anyone who travels to South Korea, regardless of their reasons, to indulge in these tasty treats that generally range from 1 to 10 dollars USD. My experience so far in South Korea has been astounding, and I am definitely looking forward to what’s to come in the future.
