Going, going, gone!

It has been exactly one week since I landed in beautiful Barcelona, Spain and so much has happened since! With how much activity has gone on, it feels as though I have been here a month rather than a mere seven days. I knew going into this journey that there would be many new lessons and cultural experiences which I would get to learn about. One of these lessons happened very quickly on our third night here! One of the biggest warnings we heard when coming here was to be very wary of others while on public transport and in big tourist destinations due to skilled pick pocketers. This lesson was proven extremely true when my roommate had her wallet snatched out of her purse on the metro! It happened in the blink of an eye and she did not even notice until a few minutes had gone by. While everything in the wallet was thankfully replaceable, it is definitely an annoying and awakening experience to have! This lesson emphasizes the point to always be hyper aware of your surroundings, and as our parents have always told us, “don’t trust strangers”! While it is a fun and liberating experience to be in a new country and culture, it is still important to keep safety in mind during your fun as well. Despite the very few people who make a living off of ruining your day and taking your things, the majority of people have been more than welcoming and extremely kind! I am looking forward to the many adventures which await me, and can’t wait to see more of this beautiful city!
